Rustic Estate - Brentwood
California Residence
The large estate in Brentwwod began as a single family residence and
lot. When the client wanted a larger property, he expanded by buying
the property next door. After tearing down the additional house, the
objective was to create one unified garden.
Originally from an east coast climate, the client wanted to incorporate
as much of the east coast landscape style as possible.
The driving concept behind the project was to create a functional
garden that could tie the existing house and yard to the new one next
door. This was achieved by creating new pathways to connect the two
gardens and adding outdoor patios and balconies on the main house
from which the new garden could be viewed and enjoyed.
Formal planting areas were added adjacent to the house and street
front. As the property sloped away and down into a natural watershed,
the plantings became more informal, and free-flowing. In the watershed,
native California plants, indigenous to creek areas in nature were
planted. Pathways and stairways connect all of the different garden
areas.
